    "text": "And I'm thinking about things like the UN General Assembly, the upcoming climate meeting in Belem, lots of noise, lots of rhetoric, lots of acting out, but almost no acting."

    "text": "Too many politicians think they're actors, and some of them are actually good actors."
  },

    "text": "As actors, perhaps even brilliant, but as leaders, as you say, not so good."

    "text": "First, how can I focus on building the future today that I want to see?"

    "text": "And how I really get the things that I can do done and effectively with more passion, with more intention, with even in a better way."

    "text": "and also feel that there is nothing to do, then what?"

    "text": "But also, if we get into all this massive overwhelming information and what I would call personalization of issues, then we don't get the most from this moment."

    "text": "So for me, one thing is try not to get so distracted and even be more intentional and understand that I have this moment to do the things I need to do."

    "text": "and that tomorrow I don't know, because all the answers that you mentioned, for me, that's key."

    "text": "And the second is to not focus on persons in this moment."

    "text": "I'm not focusing on persons, but what really brought us here, what we didn't see, what are we missing, what do we need?"

    "text": "And I feel that for me, that's the deeper question."

    "text": "And just to give you an example, Alan."

    "text": "with the USAID crisis that, you know, I'm a founder for an organization that even had approved, like, I received the approval of last year of five million grants for the next five years."

    "text": "That was key for the sustainability of visible hands, the foundation that I am leading that I founded for doing key work."
  },
  {

    "text": "So now we receive this year that we don't, you know, that we don't that USAID will disappear everything."

    "text": "Yeah, it wasn't the way to do it."

    "text": "It wasn't, you know, like this human approach to close, to say goodbye, to, you know, to also respect what people are building."

    "text": "But at the same time, it faced us with a reality that we don't have philanthropy, major philanthropy in Latin America, that much of the work that an organization like Visible Hands does is based on the U.S."
  },

    "text": "that the advent of black and indigenous people was mainly funded by the U.S."
  },

    "text": "And I feel we are facing this kind of existential question that, yes, can go to people or particular names, but in particular, I think are more existential questions for us."

    "text": "One is the personalization of issues."
  },

    "text": "I was stunned when the South Africans after AID disappeared, complained about all these people that were going to die in South Africa rather than do something about it."

    "text": "that they literally couldn't shift from, it's our people, it's our problem, and yes, for the grace of God, someone was helping pay for this, that someone just disappeared, so therefore these people are gonna die, rather than, oh my God, it's our problem, let's go sell it."

    "text": "And that's essentially what you just said."
  },

    "text": "We're at one of these moments where institutions processes protocols of the past, are disappearing, they're changing."

    "text": "And it isn't all Trump, but Trump is a convenient boogeyman."

    "text": "But the fact is, they're changing."
  },

    "text": "And so how do you, as a leader, how do we get people like the South Africans to say, listen to what you just said."

    "text": "You just condemned your people to die because Donald Trump shut off the aid."

  },

    "text": "And I feel that we need to have this conversation."

    "text": "You know when my team, the day that we received this very aggressive letter, my team was like, Paula, now I have been working twenty years with U.S."

    "text": "money for racial equality in Colombia."

    "text": "It's not possible that we don't get the investment of Colombians on these issues."
  },

    "text": "that many Colombian organizations would not invest in the advancement of black and indigenous people."

    "text": "But it is that part that I feel we need to have in this conversation, because any single human being will pass in one moment or the other."

    "text": "And here there is an opportunity to see that."

    "text": "That was like, okay, how are we going to channel this humiliation to do something and to be better at being autonomous in our agendas?"

    "text": "How are we going to use this moment of humiliation where we all feel that we are not treated with respect, with all these things, but also we channel in order to say, okay, now I invest in this because South Africa or Colombia are not poor countries."

    "text": "a while ago that their funding sources from outside Uganda might become problematic."

    "text": "So of all things, they started a coffee company."
  },

    "text": "And the guy who's running the hospital is also now running a coffee company."
  },
  {

    "text": "So he has a stream of income, a very successful coffee company actually, a stream of income."
  },

    "text": "whose purpose is to sustain the hospital."

    "text": "So it is new thinking."
  },

    "text": "It is saying, okay, the last thing I want to do as a hospital administrator is learn how to grow coffee and process coffee and sell coffee, but I won't have a hospital if I can't find some income."

    "text": "So it isn't, in his case, he didn't say, okay, oh my God, I have to shut the hospital down because there's no money."
  },

    "text": "And he didn't say, oh my god, I've got to go find a Nugandan to write a check because the Americans aren't writing checks anymore."
  },

    "text": "He actually completely reinvented the model."

    "text": "Now, I don't know where else and how else and what else can be done, but I'm pretty sure that we have to find a way to stimulate that kind of thinking."

    "text": "And then it is based on that kind of new ways of doing things."

    "text": "Most governments haven't said a word about many NGOs disappearing and trying to see how they manage the goodwill and the aid that many of these NGOs were doing in these countries."

    "text": "But governance is, you know, like, because I feel sometimes We get so much distraction fighting about the general, but all these things are critical where we can do something because seven hundred million dollars a year of USAID was money, but compared to the Colombian budget, we can do something."

    "text": "But what is the conversation we are having?"

    "text": "And I feel that's key, this new thinking, this retooling, re-energizing, and redefining many of the system like philanthropy."

    "text": "We forgot that leadership is about choosing A or B, not A and B and C and D. And I think that really is part of the problem, so that when you, when AID disappears, many organizations just said, oh my god, what could we do?"

    "text": "And yeah, many organizations are suffering because of the main source for peace prevention was USAID."

    "text": "But at the same time, people say, OK, we will do it."

    "text": "despite that we have no resources."
  },
